The Stool
Partially inspired by the Shinto shrines of Japan as well as the overall aesthetic of Modernism, The Stool was designed as an accessory to the home.
The Stool was a project that I undertook whilst in a furniture construction course at OCAD U. While we were given some loose dimensions to follow, the design was left in the hands of the student. I decided on a very rectilinear form and utilized the contrasting colours of maple and walnut to add some depth to the form. Key design elements include the floating top, thick walnut legs and an underlying mortis and tenon structure.

This shot of the stool shows how the top is attached to allow for wood movement.
While all the edges on the stool look sharp, they have all been given a slight radius.
