The Posture of a Smartphone

With the evolution of technology, almost everyone now
carries a phone in their pocket with more computing power
than was necessary to take to the moon. With the introduction of
this technology into everyday lives, a posture has formed. It is
impossible now to walk down a busy street without seeing
someone on their phone - either walking and looking down at it or
leaning against a wall or window doing the same thing. This new
posture is what I like to call the Posture of a Smartphone, and it’s
only going to become more common.

The man was created as a critique on how the human body is capable of so much, but so often individuals are found slouching in the exact same position as depicted by this piece. Standing at around 7 feet tall, the man is designed to be somewhat imposing and yet due to its posture feels very familiar.

The photo above focuses on the hip joint. The man is constructed of structural tubing as well as many mechanical parts, this was done to illustrate the complexity of the human body.

One of the most captivating details of the man is his eyes. Due to the scale of the piece, looking up reveals two large glass lenses staring back at you.
